Allergies are caused by our bodies reacting to things that it thinks are harmful or foreign to our bodies. So, we have an immune system that fights against bacteria and viruses but sometimes, it thinks that, for example, pollen is dangerous. So, it produces an immune response against pollen. That’s why hayfever has cold-like symptoms (sneezing and running eyes)- because they’re both due to the immune response.
