It was a hard decision, but I decided I enjoyed doing science more. I think it was also because I realized I can always carry on learning about music and playing the piano/violin, but in order to do the science I do everyday now requires a whole lab full of equipment – certainly not something I have at home! I definitely think I made the right decision.
I’ve been in the same research group, so the work is always broadly ‘biological chemistry’. I also do lots of work with shorter chains of amino acids (up to about 50 amino acids) which we call ‘peptides’. I’ve worked on lots of different projects, but within this area (and always involving the synthesizer at some point or another!).

how long have you worked in a lab

I did lots of teaching labs in my undergraduate degree, but including my final year masters project year I’ve been doing lab work now for 4 years
